Patachitra: Rama Lakshmana Janaki

The Aravali team proudly brings you traditional, hand-painted Bengal Patachitra. This art form is GI-certified by the Government of India. The Bengal Patachitra tells stories about mythology, religion, folklore, or social issues. Bengal Patachitra's artist is called Patua or Chitrakar. Traditionally, Chitrakars travelled from village to village telling their tales and unwrapping scrolls scene by scene, combining storytelling, painting, and singing. Aravali has partnered with the best Patachitra artists in India to bring authentic Patachitra to our patrons. This painting was created by a Rabindra Bharati awardee and state award winner. Each of these paintings take many hours of hard work and patience to complete. More complex themes might need weeks to finish.
The painting depicts a scene from the exile of Rama in the forest. Brothers Rama and Lakshmana are shown outside their hut, while Sita sits inside, pointing to the golden deer in a distance. The scene from Ramayana is believed to a major event, which changed the course of the epic, leading to the final fight and killing of Ravana.
