Kalighat: Tabla Player

This series of paintings of Tabla, Esraj, Veena, and Ektara players depicts Kalighat Patachitra style painting. Kalighat paintings, also known as Kalighat Patachitra, are part of Bengal Patachitra traditions. It was prevalent throughout the late 18th and early 19th centuries around Kolkata's Kalighat temple. An acclaimed Bengali painter, Jamini Roy (1887–1972), further developed the Kalighat Patachitra. The subject of these paintings has evolved, and now they depict the incoherence of urban life in their paintings. They reflect the Babu culture in Calcutta during the bygone days of the British.
