The Aravali Terracotta Tile series is an inspiration from the legendary painter Jamini Roy. Roy was people’s artist and captured themes from everyday lives of people of Bengal. His themes ranged from farm life to woman in household, festivities to pets and ceremonies to mythology. Though trained at the government college of Art during the colonial period, Roy developed his own distinct style by taking inspiration from Indian cultural themes.
The terracotta tiles feature different themes based on Roy’s style. The most striking feature of Roy’s work that is hard to capture in terracotta are the eyes. Here the artist has used his skills to recreate the same magic of oil paints in clay and has brought out the best of Roy’s works.
These handmade tiles are paired with a miniature easel by Aravali for display on table top. Alternatively patrons can also get them framed and use it as wall art.
