Aravali is proud to bring you this exclusive made-to-order collection from an award-winning artist. The master terracotta artist is known for her pinch pottery, which involves moulding clay by hand with a special pinch. In this stunning sculpture, two forms of the Goddess Durga are merged into one, resulting in a stunning sculpture. A Shailputri Durga is said to be the deliverer of all fortunes in this world. In one hand, she holds a trishul, and in the other, a lotus flower. On the other half of the sculpture, she is Mahishashurmardini (the Goddess who slew the buffalo-headed demon Mahish) and represents Shakti, the divine power of the feminine.
There is a great deal of labour involved in this piece since it is extremely complicated. During the making process, clay is refined, clay is mixed, details are etched out of the sculpture, it is dried, and finally it is fired. Terracotta, firing is a very complex process, and if the right temperature and technique are not followed, the entire sculpture can be ruined. Unlike most artists, the master artist does not paint her terracotta pieces but instead achieves the colour by firing them at different temperatures.
