Batik is at least 1500 year old dyeing craft, practiced in Southeast Asia and to almost 2000 years in India. Javanese Batik was introduced in Bengal by the Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore after his visit to Java in 1927. Since then Batik has become a popular craft in eastern India. The complicated process of wax pouring on fabric to prevent the dyes from reacting with the fabric. To get multiple colour to form patterns and figures, wax is poured and removed multiple times while using different dyes in the process. The extremely time intensive process, sometimes lasting days, eventually produces amazingly vibrant pieces of craft.
The Batik series of Aravali brings to you handpicked pieces created by skilled artisans. Each piece is unique and shows the skill, dedication and labour of the artist who created it. These amazing pieces of craft comes to you, packed in yet another piece of craft from western India. Aravali uses the Rajwada Boxes of Rajasthan to pack the Batik. The boxes are made of mango wood with traditional Indian motifs drawn all over it. The fusion of two different art forms is a special initiative of Aravali to bring different art forms together.
